Why daily rotation matters

Predictable rotations (alphabetical, by row, by birthday) feel fair but produce predictable boredom. Pure random produces small clusters and "I haven't been picked in two weeks" complaints. The Remove-winner workflow gives you the best of both — fully random within the round, and a guaranteed turn for everyone before any repeats.

How to use this picker

  1. 1

Build the roster on day one

Switch to the Bulk edit tab and paste your full class list, one name per line. Or add students one at a time in the Entries tab. Save the share URL so you can re-load the same roster each morning.

  2. 2

    Spin every morning

30 seconds of your day. Audible ticks build anticipation across the classroom.

  3. 3

    Tap 'Remove winner'

Picked student is excluded from future spins until the rotation completes.

  4. 4

Reset when everyone's had a turn

Refresh the page or reload the saved URL. The full roster comes back fresh.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remember where I left off across days?
Your last wheel state is saved in your browser's localStorage and reloads automatically the next morning. As long as you use the same browser and don't clear cache, the wheel resumes exactly where you stopped.
What if a new student joins mid-year?
Type the new student's name in the Entries tab and press Enter. The wheel updates instantly.
Can I weight quiet students higher so they get picked sooner?
Yes — switch to Bulk edit and append '*2' or '*3' to their line. Note: many teachers find pure random eventually surfaces everyone, but if a student has gone weeks without a turn, a temporary weight boost is a fair correction.
What if I want a different student each subject (multiple rotations)?
Save separate wheels for each subject. Use the share dialog to bookmark a URL for 'Math student of the day', another for 'Reading student of the day', etc.
Is there an absence option?
Easiest pattern: use the Entries tab to remove absent students before spinning, then add them back afterwards. Or skip them with a re-spin.
Will this work on my classroom projector?
Yes. Use the 'Classroom' theme (cycle from the header). It's specifically tuned for the warm, slightly washed-out colors of typical classroom projectors and reads from the back of the room.
